Redgrave Impressed by Handball

Sir Steve Redgrave has said how impressed he is by handball.

The five-time Olympic Gold-medal winning rower, speaking to the Radio Times, commented: “I always try to watch sports I’m unfamiliar with – whatever is around.

“I remember in Athens 2004 going to watch the Handball. We have no tradition of Handball in this country, but I absolutely loved the athleticism of it, the spectacle.”

The women’s handball got underway in Rio with a shock result as home nation Brazil beat 2012 Gold medalists 31-28. Meanwhile, 2012 Silver-medal winners Montenegro lost 25-19 to Spain – who took Bronze four years ago.

In the men’s competition France, who won Gold at 2012 and are current World Champions, sneaked past Tunisia 25-23 in their opening match.

The handball is being shown on the BBC website. The gold medal match will also be on BBC Red Button, interactive/connected TV outlets. Select other games will also be available on these channels. Just check each day if, and what, matches are available.
