The GB U19 men’s team travel to Portugal this weekend to take part in the Penedono Tournament

GB face strong opposition including NAP and Sporting Lisbon in the preliminary round, then either Benfica, Braga or CDSB in the play-offs. The tournament is part of the team’s ongoing preparations for next year’s U20 European Championship. The squad is largely self-funded, but does receive some financial support under a joint International Handball Federation/IOC programme.

GB U20 men’s coach Mark Hawkins commented “the team has been training really hard for the past two years and the experienced Portuguese teams will prove a tough test for the boys. We are very grateful to NAP who have been extremely generous in offering us hospitality while we are there”
